Let It Enfold You is an exhibition of 4th year Painting at Limerick School of Art & Design, Technological University of the Shannon. This exhibition marks the impressive culmination of four years of commitment to a creative practice and a sustained engagement with the language of art. The students exhibiting have realised a professionally competent body of artwork originating from self-defined themes and a theoretically established position. This is an exciting opportunity for students to test their ideas and creative skills with you, the public audience. The 19th century French painter Edgar Degas once said that Art is not what you see, but what you make others see. The works in this exhibition offer some profound reflections and insights into what it means to live in the 21st century, in the aftermath of a pandemic and in a time of climate change. Home, belonging, history, Place and the mutable, sometimes fallible nature of memory are recurring themes explored through paint, photography, found objects and poetry in this exhibition. Inherent in each work is the accumulated consignment of things we carry with us in our unconsciousness, and the ways in which they are projected on to the landscapes and objects around us. Such a collection grows greater and greater with each passing year: those we carry with us - and the faces of those we loved. Those who are gone now. Those who are here. The special places. The places in which we always want to linger. The places that make us ache for solitude, for sleep, for dreaming and forgetting. Like all creative endeavours this exhibition affords us the opportunity to bear witness to our own mortality and vulnerability. This publication contains illustrations of the work on show at Limerick School of Art & Design and is a unique insight into the creative skill, learning journey and critical reflection of each student at such a significant time in their lives.

''Sinéad Gaughran's studio practice explores and examines ideas around the body. Encompassing both the physical and psychological experience with particular emphasis placed on birthmarks and bruising. She involves herself in experimental practices and processes including staining, bleaching, tearing, gluing, folding, and stretching prior to the utilisation of any paint. Her renderings turn the familiarity of the body into something unfamiliar. Lens based media and digital formats form part of the early initial stages of her working methods which also include collage and experimental material alterations. Through the reworking of personal imagery and motifs such as bruising, cuts and birthmarks. The forms are then transformed and submerged into large scale paintings. The collage of photo and material forms are integral to her entire body of work and attempt to portray the many different senses and experiences our body contains and occupies. As Sinéad's work progresses, new works are continually informed by previous works.''
